Why do you need teeth whitening?

Some may experience teeth staining over their lifetime, which can be due to a variety of factors. Soda, coffee, tea, smoking, and at times genetics are typically the most common factors.

New technology now allows dentists to whiten teeth without changing or damaging the tooth structure. The method we offer is custom tray whitening.

A Pennington dentist will take impressions or molds of the patient’s upper and lower teeth. Custom trays can be created for the top and bottom teeth using these molds.  The custom trays and whitening gel go home with the patient who then dispenses the whitening gel into the trays. Following the dentist’s instructions, the patient should wear these trays at home for a specified amount of time, which can range from one hour a day to possibly overnight for around 2 weeks.

The patient can expect their teeth to be noticeably whiter and brighter and can then compare their new white smile with before photos, which we take prior to whitening. Studies have shown this method of professional teeth whitening to be the most effective.

Over the counter whitening can be successful to a certain degree, but the whitening material is not as concentrated and the distribution of whitening material may be applied unevenly leading to a less than ideal outcome. The custom tray teeth whitening system that we provide allows an even distribution and stronger concentration of whitening material, as well as superior long term results.
