Root Canal Treat ment
The words "root canal" can strike
fear in any person. However, at Pennington Dental
Associates we have shortened most root canals
process into one easy visit that is fast and
painless. Using the most advance techniques
available including an operating microscope, our
patients benefit from the latest in endodontics.
Every tooth consists of three
different layers. From the outside, first there is
the enamel (the outer layer of teeth which is the
hardest part of the body). The second layer is
dentin (the inside hard layer) and then we have the
pulp (which is an empty space where the live tissue
and nerve of each tooth is located). If for any
reason the pulp space is exposed to the outside, the
tissue becomes contaminated and eventually infected.
The exposure of pulp happens in many circumstances
for example when you have a large cavity, or a
fractured tooth. The treatment for these situations
is Root Canal Treatment.

At our office, a root canal
specialist, called an endodontist, will perform the
root canal treatment. Root canal treatment is the
process of treating the pulp space and removing the
infected nerve and contaminated tissue and blood
vessels. With a state of the art dental microscope
the endodontist will disinfect and seal the pulp
space with a special root filling material. After
root canal treatment is done, we will usually
fabricate a crown for the tooth to protect the tooth
against fracture.
